Scottish Parliamentary Elections
Deadline to register to vote is 14 April 2011
At election times issues of social justice are understandably prominent in the minds of voters. The Catholic Church proposes principles and criteria which can be applied to all aspects of life including political life to allow an informed assessment of issues being considered in the run up to the election.
Political parties will vary in how they try to contribute to a decent society but there is no simple blueprint. There may be many ways of tackling issues of social concern. However all political and social policies must uphold the wellbeing of the human person and of the common good of society. This website aims to give an insight into the Church's social teaching in some of the most important areas being considered by Christians at this election. These issues will always provide guidance for Christians and people of good will who are eager to examine the best ways of living together harmoniously in society.
The Catholic Parliamentary Office is an agency of the Bishops' Conference of Scotland.
We monitor political issues and liaise with government bodies and politicians to promote dialogue and reflection on social and political issues
